    Hi Sajeev,

Nice to see your effort in capturing the design change that has happened in IE (Nwadays, IE reminds of only Internet Explorer, sucks…)

Why were these guys - fiery (once upon a time…) Crusader (IE) and Mount Road Mahavishnu (The Hindu) - waiting all these years for making few basic and much needed redesigning their newspapers? Now too, it is because of the launch of the largest circulated (but editorially poor) TOI in Chennai. Ok, apologies.. The Hindu has gone for a new design a couple of months earlier.

The Hindu is over confident that nothing will happen to their No.1 position in Chennai. They just need to recall what happened to them in Bangalore and Hyderabad. I am sure the same fate awaits in Chennai too. Not because, TOI is a great newspaper but The Hindu is a boring newspaper and with Ram in the helm, it has become a Communist mouthpiece.

In this not-so-bright scenario, tehj redesigned IE looks like a winner. I only wish they would change the newsprint too.. the one they use now is pathetic…even regional newspapers use high quality newsprint.

Finally, in my opinion, Sunday IE is the best Sunday newspaper in India. I await reaction from you and the readers of your blog.

Continue to focus on Indian media,

    Regards,

    ksvkumar

The earlier design was much better as a newspaper. The new masthead is too ‘modern’! Overdoing always creates problem. Bodytype is too small. Printing and newsprint is horrible.

INDIAN EXPRESS’S REDESIGN IS DONE BY A “VISUAL EDITORS” MEMBER
    DEEPAK HARICHANDAN AND TEAM

  4. Jacob Says:

I agree with RS Iyer, the new masthead doesn’t make sense to me.

  5. Sasi Says:

It’s a welcome change. But, I don’t understand the significance of 1 in the title and also concerned with the size of the font in Crossword and City Listings as most of the readers “expressed” already.

No need for modification in the text.

The whole redesign of the New Indian Express is a fantastic effort, IMHO, except for the IE masthead which looks really ‘fugly’ Otherwise, it is ubercool. Looks lot more readable and pretty good on eyes unlike the Deccan Kronical, where I used to moonlight. Thanks a lot for making our day everyday in the morning. Keep up the good work. Good stuff!
